CONDUCTING DENGUE CONTROL PROGRAMMES WITHIN THE 562 INFANTRY BRIGADE AOR

As part of the national dengue prevention campaign “A Quiet City – A Healthy Life”, the 562 Infantry Brigade successfully conducted a series of dengue control programmes within its Area of Responsibility (AOR), in coordination with the Directors of Health Services. The initiative was implemented in accordance with directives issued by the Commander of the Army and the Commander of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), with the close cooperation of relevant government authorities.

The programmes were carried out from 07 to 09 January 2026 under the overall supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division. Troops of the 562 Infantry Brigade, together with personnel from the 17 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry and the 12 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, actively engaged in environmental sanitation activities across several locations in the area. Priority was given to the cleaning of Pampemadu Varod Home for the Disabled, Barathy School, Sinnavalayan Kaddu School, Vilaththikulam School, and Prasankulam Marnila Pre-School premises in order to reduce potential mosquito breeding grounds.

The dengue prevention drive was conducted under the leadership of the Commander, 562 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier D M P U Dissanayaka RSP USP IG. A total of 07 officers and 66 troops participated in the operation, working under the supervision of respective battalion commanders to ensure effective coordination and disciplined execution.

The programme received strong support from officials of the Health Services Department, other government agencies, local civilians, and school students. This joint effort not only enhanced dengue prevention measures but also strengthened civil–military cooperation and promoted community awareness on maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
