In line with the national dengue prevention initiative “A Quiet City A Healthy Life”, dengue control programmes were conducted within the Area of Responsibility (AOR) of the 561 Infantry Brigade with the coordination and guidance of the Directors of Health Services. These activities were carried out in accordance with instructions issued by the Commander of the Army and the Commander of the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), in close consultation with relevant government authorities.
Under the close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 56 Infantry Division, troops under command of the 561 Infantry Brigade, together with personnel from the 10th Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment and the 16th Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, conducted a series of dengue eradication programmes from 07 to 09 January 2026. The operations covered several locations in the area and focused on environmental cleaning activities, including the cleaning of public premises at Palinagar, school premises at Kollavilankulam and Karappukkuththi, and the clearing of both sides of the A9 Main Road over a distance of approximately 7 km to eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Commander, 561 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier E G C Gunasena RWP RSP. A total of 04 officers and 41 other ranks actively participated under the direction of respective battalion commanders, ensuring effective coordination and disciplined execution of assigned tasks.
The initiative received valuable support from officials of the Health Services Department, other government institutions, local civilians, and school students. This collective effort significantly contributed to strengthening civil–military cooperation while enhancing public awareness on dengue prevention and environmental responsibility within the community.
