Awareness Programme on Drug Prevention for Students of St. Anne’s College, Vankalai

Under the guidance of Major General A.M.C. Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, and the supervision of Brigadier I.P. Jayasinghe RWP, Commander, 541 Infantry Brigade, an Awareness Programme on Drug Prevention was organized by Major R.M.H. Karunarathna, Officer Commanding, 10 (V) Gemunu Watch Regiment, together with his troops at St. Anne’s College, Vankalai, Mannar on 09 October 2025.

More than 200 students aged 14 years and above participated in the session, which aimed to educate youth on the dangers of drug use and promote healthy lifestyles. Mrs. Ajantha Sharmalee Violet, Outreach Officer of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board (NDDCB) – Jaffna Branch, served as the resource person and conducted an insightful lecture on drug prevention and rehabilitation awareness.

The event was coordinated by Lt Col Purna Perera, Liaison Officer, Office of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation – Jaffna, with the active participation of Mr. A. Shivakumar, Principal of St. Anne’s College, the school staff, and Lt Col A.G.C.K. Arabegoda GW, Civil Affairs Officer, 541 Infantry Brigade.

This programme formed part of the ongoing efforts of the Sri Lanka Army in support of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ initiative, fostering a drug-free environment and raising awareness among the younger generatio
