59 Infantry Division Organizes Football Tournament for Civil Clubs in Mullaitivu

The 59 Infantry Division has organized a Football Tournament for civil football clubs in the Mullaitivu area, under the guidance and concept of the General Officer Commanding, 59 Infantry Division. The event aims to strengthen civil–military relations while promoting sportsmanship and unity among the youth in the region.

A total of 22 football teams are competing in this tournament, which officially commenced with an opening ceremony on 03 September 2025 at 1530 p.m. at Iranapali Ground. Presiding over the event as the Chief Guest, Major General DRN Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP General Officer Commanding 59 Infantry Division, joined by Brig W M I U B Weerasekara USP psc Bde Commander 593 Inf Bde, Brig M S I Aluvihare RWP RSP, Bde Commander 591 Inf Bde, Battalion Commanding Officers, and several civil dignitaries, marked the formal commencement of the tournament.

The tournament will run from 03 to 10 September 2025, with matches being played at Alampil and Iranapali grounds. The final match is scheduled to take place on 10 September 2025 at Iranapali Ground, Puthukuduiruppu, where winners will be crowned in the presence of distinguished civil guests and senior military officers.

The tournament is not only a celebration of football but also a symbol of peace, friendship, and mutual cooperation between the armed forces and the local communities.
