Under the guidance of Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, Commander, Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) the 56 Infantry Division conducted a dry ration distribution programme for low-income earners at Sri Sudharmarama Viharaya, Atambagaskada, on 03 January 2026. Religious blessings and spiritual guidance for the event were provided by the Chief Incumbent of the temple, Sri Saddharma Keerthi Sri Sumana Siddhartha Venerable Atambagaskada Kalyanatissabhidana Nayaka Thero.
The programme was fully organized and coordinated by the 8th Battalion of the Gemunu Watch, with the objective of uplifting vulnerable families and strengthening civil military cooperation within the area of responsibility of the 56 Infantry Division. The dry ration packs distributed during the event were generously donated by the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Kandy, reflecting a strong spirit of religious harmony and social responsibility.
A total of 150 low-income families from Atambagaskada village benefited from this humanitarian initiative. The programme served as a timely relief measure, addressing essential needs while reinforcing the Sri Lanka Army’s continued commitment to serving the people beyond its core security responsibilities.
The event was graced by the presence of the General Officer Commanding of the 56 Infantry Division, Major General S A U A Solangaarachchi RSP ndc psc, the Commander of the 563 Infantry Brigade, the Chief Civil Coordinating Officer of SFHQ (Wanni), General Staff Officers of the Division, the Commanding Officer of the 8th Gemunu Watch, along with officers, troops, and civilians of Atambagaskada village.
This initiative once again highlighted the Sri Lanka Army’s enduring role in community welfare, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to national service, compassion, and people-centric operations in times of need.
