54 Infantry Division Conducts Free Animal Health Camp at Madu Church Hospital

Recognizing the growing public health risks posed by stray animals and with the aim of enhancing animal welfare and safeguarding community health, the 54 Infantry Division successfully conducted a Free Animal Health Camp at the Madu Church Hospital from 25 to 29 October 2025.

This initiative was carried out under the concept of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, and the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 54 Infantry Division, Major General A M C Abeykoon RWP RSP USP ndc. The programme was organized by the 542 Infantry Brigade in collaboration with Dr. Chamith Nanayakkara, Director of Vet for Future (Pvt) Ltd.

The primary objective of the campaign was to provide essential medical care and treatment for stray dogs in and around the Madu area, promoting animal safety, disease prevention, and public hygiene. Over the five-day programme, veterinary teams conducted a range of vital services, including sterilization, rabies vaccination, and general medical treatment for stray animals.

This humanitarian initiative was widely appreciated by the local community and church authorities for its invaluable contribution to animal welfare and community well-being. The effort stands as a testament to the continued civil–military cooperation fostered by the Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), aimed at strengthening harmony, public health, and social responsibility within the Mannar region.

The entire programme was meticulously planned and executed by the 4 Gajaba Regiment under the supervision of the Commander, 542 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier A R W C Asurasingha RWP RSP USP.
