Under the leadership and guidance of the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division Major General A M C P Wijayaratne RWP RSP nps psc, a traditional New Year Festival titled “Bakmaha Ulela 2025” was successfully held on 09 April 2025 at the Thalladi Camp premises. The event brought together hundreds of serving all ranks from the Division Headquarters as well as under-command Brigades and Battalions. Government officials and villagers of Mannar area also participated for the event.
The Commander of Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) Major General K M P S B Kulatunga RSP ndc psc, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The festival formally commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, symbolizing the start of the celebration.
The festival featured a variety of traditional and fun-filled activities such as Raban playing, tug-of-war, pillow fights, grease pole climbing, pinning the eye on the elephant, bun eating competitions, slow cycling races, fancy dress parades, obstacle races and many more entertaining games. Winners of the various events received gifts from the Chief Guest and other distinguished invitees.
The evening culminated with a vibrant musical show performed by the Super Rounds band of the Sri Lanka Ordnance Corps, accompanied by energetic dance performances by “Nethu and Fire Girls” dancing team.
