VIR INTER BATTALION ATHLETIC MEET KICKED OFF WITH NEW HOPES

Incorporate Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre and 22nd Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment jointly organized, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Inter Battalion Athletic Meet - 2021, the inspiring sports event of the year that generated enormous enthusiasm among Army sports lovers drew to a close on 24 February 2021 at Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre Playground, Boyagane, amid ceremonials.

CORNERSTONE FOR NEW SWIMMING POOL AT RHQ VIR WAS LAID

On the far-sighted guidance of Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre with the approval of the Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, currently undergoes a series of construction projects, saw simultaneous inauguration of a gigantic task on 11 February 2021 when construction of the new Swimming Pool was ceremonially commenced by utilizing regimental reserve funds with the indelible toil and blessings of all Archers.

VIR GENERALS WERE FELICITATED BY RHQ VIR UPON THEIR PROMOTIONS

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, following its’ traditions and military formalities with the blessings of the Colonel of the Regiment Major General Sisira Pilapitiya and supervision of the Centre Commandant Brigadier Nalin Bandaranayake, saluted the newly-promoted Senior Officers of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 09 February 2021 in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre at Boyagane, Kurunegala, giving pride of place to military formalities by adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak .

73rd NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS AT RHQ VIR

To coincide with the 73rd National Independence Day with the guidelines and instructions of the Army Headquarters, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre launched a sequence of events on 4 February 2021 with the participation of Deputy Centre Commandant, Staff Officers and Other Ranks by adhering all the guidelines that stipulated to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic.

FORMAL FAREWELL DINNER BIDS ON THE RETIREMENT OF BRIGADIER SISIRA HERATH

On 29 January 2021, revitalizing an age-old military tradition, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre hosted a farewell dinner by adhering all the safety measures stipulated by the Government and the health authorities to prevent the COVID- 19 pandemic, in honour of the retiring Brigadier P M R H S K Herath RWP RSP, former Centre Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and outgoing member of the Vijayabahu Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs. Shyama Weerakoon at “The Salute” multifunctional hall, Boyagane, Kurunegala, in which the service was hailed and awarded accolades.

COMMENCEMENT OF THE INDUCTION COURSE FOR NEWLY COMMISSIONED OFFICERS

Young officers induction course has been started on 22 January 2021, 13newly commissioned officers from Regular Intake 88 and 88B followed Bachelor of Architecture(01), Bachelor of Computer Science (01), Bachelor of Logistic Management(04), Bachelor of Social Science(02), Management of Technical Science(01), Bachelor of Military Science (03), Bachelor of Social Science (Pakistan) (01) was reported to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre after commissioning on last December 2020.

NEW CENTRE COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Brigadier K A W N H Bandaranayake USP assumes office as the 15th Centre Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 19 January 2021 during a brief ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Boyagane.
Brigadier Nalin Bandaranayake was born on 19 August 1971 and studied at St. Thomas College, Matale. He was a bright student in the college who amply illustrated his talents and skills in various streams.

COLONEL P S S SANJEEWA RSP psc ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE AIR MOBILE BRIGADE COMMANDER

Colonel P S S Sanjeewa RSP psc assumed office on 17 December 2020 as the Commander of the Air Mobile Brigade in Velankulam, Vauniya amid military formalities and religious observances.
Colonel Subath Sanjeewa was born on 26 October 1972 and was educated at Ananda College, Colombo. He enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 26 August 1991 to Regular Intake 36. Having completed his basic military training at Sri Lanka Military Academy, he was commissioned on 19 June 1993 and posted to the 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
