VIR INTER BATTALION HARD BALL CRICKET TOURNAMENT KICKED OFF

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Hard Ball Cricket Tournament - 2021 concluded on 20 February 2021 evening at 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Cricket grounds at Akkarayankulam, Kilinochchi, generating a wave of overwhelming enthusiasm while adhering all the guidelines stipulated to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak.

This 12 days long tournament was organized by the 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, saw 17 teams representing 17 battalions belong to VIR, vied for the Championship. 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Cricket teams qualified for the Finals.

During the finals held on Saturday (20) evening, Commanding Officer of the 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major Aruna Subasinghe warmly received the day’s protagonist, Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S P K A Pilapitiya RWP RSP USP on arrival at the venue.

20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment cricket team beat 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment cricket team in finals to emerge as champions.

Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya, after extending his warm congratulations presented the Championship Trophy to the winning 20th (Volunteer) Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment cricket amidst a thundering applause.

Colonel Chaminda Liyanage, Commander 662 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Rukshan Kannangara, Deputy Centre Commandant, VIR, Commanding Officers of VIR battalions, several senior officers and other ranks attended to the occasion.
