Lieutenant Colonel S A B Dissanayake RWP RSP assumed the office as the 13th Staff Officer I (Administration) of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 10 April 2023 during a brief ceremony at the VIR Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lieutenant Colonel Sanath Dissanayake was enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force as an Officer Cadet on 14 November 1989 with Intake KDA 7. Having undergone the basic military training successfully, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 14 November 1991 and posted to the 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

Showcasing glamour and pride on a grand scale, as one of the most prestigious fighting regiments of the Sri Lanka Army, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment commemorated its 33rd anniversary on 22 March 2023 in a colourful and vibrant ceremony held at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane in the presence of regimental council members, senior officers , officers and Other Ranks.

In line with 33rd Regimental Day celebration, essential stationery items and school bags were donated to 41 much needy school children of soldiers and civil servants serving under the regiment by the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 22 March 2023.
This event was conducted under the direction of the President of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch Madam Kumudu Manage. After the main event, a fabulous tea was offered to all parents including their children at ‘The Salute’ Multifunctional Hall.

An over-night ‘Pirith’ chanting followed by offering of morning almsgiving was organized by the Regimental Centre of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on par with the forthcoming 33rd Regimental Day which got underway on 18, 19 March 2023 at the Regimental Centre premises.

On par with 33rd Regimental Day celebration, offering of delicious lunch for inmates of Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home and Maliyadewa Boys’ Home was organized by the officers and Other Ranks of the Regimental Centre the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 16 and 17 March 2023.

The “Coffee Table Book”, authored by Brigadier Subath Sanjeewa and his editorial team was symbolically handed over to Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army, Commander 1 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Nishantha Manage during a brief ceremony held at the Archers Cinema of the Regimental Centre on 17 March 2023 in the presence of a gathering of senior officers including General Officer Commanding of 11 Infantry Division, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare, council members and several other officers.

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment bid farewell to retiring Major General U P R Weerakoon WWV RWP RSP VSV USP on 19 March 2023 at the Regimental Centre who were to retire shortly after an illustrious career of more than 34 years in the Sri Lanka Army.
On 19 morning the outgoing senior officer was honoured with a Guard Turnout at the Gate and a customary Guard of Honour by the troops of the regiment, meanwhile Major General Upul Weerakoon showed his respect and gratitude to the “Sound of Silence”, the war heroes monument and the “We Salute”, PWV recipients’ monument.

The Officers’ Training Day of the first quarter – 2023 was held at the Regimental Centre the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 17 March 2023 with the participation of 100 officers including several senior officers of the regiment.

Brigadier M A D J D Gunathilaka RSP USP officially assumed duties as the 18th Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment amidst religious rituals and military formalities at the Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Boyagane on 10 March 2023.

Major HAAG Sathkumara RSP USP psc assumed duties as the 18th Commanding Officer of 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 04 March 2023. A brief ceremony was held which included religious observances, planting of a tree sapling and a troop address.
Major HAAG Sathkumara RSP USP psc has joined the Sri Lanka Army as an officer cadet of Sri Lanka Military Academy to the Regular Intake SC 10 on 23 February 2001. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 29 December 2001 and was posted to the 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
