78TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS PROGRAMS

The Arugambay and Pottuvil Three-Wheelers Association organized a vehicle parade to commemorate the 78th Independence Day, during which 146 x three-wheelers participated. Additionally, 1 x 15, 14 SLSR troops distributed cool beverages and buns to the participants in front of the Methodist Church, Pottuvil. The event commenced at 0800 hrs and concluded at 1130 hrs without any incidents.

In conjunction with the 78th Independence Day celebrations, the youth of the Thirukkovil Divisional Secretariat, together with the troops of this unit, carried out cleaning and maintenance activities at the Uthayasooriyan Ground. As per Army instructions, a friendly cricket tournament was organized among sports clubs under the Thirukkovil Divisional Secretariat on 04.02.2026 from 1300 hrs to 1800 hrs. The tournament was conducted with the participation of the Divisional Secretariat – Thirukkovil, Pradeshiya Sabha – Thirukkovil, and the Zonal Education Office – Thirukkovil, and sponsored by People’s Bank – Thirukkovil. Lunch, refreshments, and snacks were provided to all participating teams. Trophies and awards were presented to the winning teams for the Championship, Runner-up, Best Batsman, Best Bowler, and Man of the Tournament, while certificates were distributed to all participating players.

This program was carried out under the instructions and guidance of the Commander, Security Forces - East, under the guidance of senior officers, Maj Gen WMNKD Bandara RWP RSP USP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Col K.G.A.T. Kelakorale RSP, Brigade Commander, 242 Infantry Brigade, and under the full supervision of Lt Col UMP Udukumara, CAO, 242 Infantry Brigade, Major GHTP Fonseka CO 14 SLSR and Major KD Liyanage CO 8 SLNG.
