The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), and the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), undertook an official visit to the Regional Ordnance and Depot Complex (RODC) – Punani on 12 October 2025.
They were accompanied by Major General PR Pathiravithana USAWC psc, Director General General Staff (DGGS); Major General JSBW Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces (East); Major General PSJD Samarasekara RSP USP ndc psc, Director of Operations; Major General GPP Kulathilaka ndc, General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division; and Colonel BASSD Sampath Bulathgama, Commandant RODC – Punani.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister of Defence inspected key ammunition storage facilities within the complex and was briefed on the current operational readiness, security posture, and ongoing development initiatives of the establishment.
Subsequently, the Deputy Minister chaired a high-level meeting with senior officers to deliberate on several critical areas. The discussions aboup: Development of a comprehensive Emergency Response Plan, Enhancement of infrastructure and security protocols, Review and strengthening of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure smooth and efficient functioning, Reinforcement of accountability and regulatory compliance mechanisms
The visit highlighted the strategic significance of RODC – Punani in strengthening national defence preparedness. It also reaffirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to continuously enhancing logistics, operational capabilities, and security standards across its establishments.
