SRI LANKA ARMY CONTINUES MEDICAL CAMP FOR AMPARA DISTRICT DISABLED VETERANS

Under the direction of the Commander of the Army, Directorate of Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, in collaboration with the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), conducted a medical camp for disabled retired personnel as part of a series of medical programmes on 19 September 2025 at the Combat Training School, Ampara. The initiative aimed to address the healthcare needs of Army veterans residing in the Eastern Province.

Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, Commander of the Army, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces (East), together with Major General K.W. Jayaweera USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division and Brigadier W.A.S.R Wijedasa WWV RSP USP ndc psc, the Director Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation.

During the event, 20 wheelchairs, 69 crutches, and one walker, along with medical equipment, were symbolically distributed to disabled personnel by the Army Chief and Other Distinguished Guests organized by the ASVU.

The programme benefited over 1,250 individuals, including disabled retired/medical board-out personnel and family members of War Heroes currently facing medical challenges. The medical camp featured medical consultations, prosthetic maintenance, dermatology and dental clinics, mental health counseling, and nutritional guidance.

Directors of Army Headquarters, Officials from the Ministry of Defence, Members of Ranaviru Seva Authority, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the event to inquire about the current issues of the participants.
