HISTORY OF 223 INFANTRY BRIGADE
Headquarters 224 Brigade was formed at Soorangal on 25 August 2011 to control the civil unrest in Kinniya. The initial battalions of the Brigade were 12 GR and 24 VIR. Since the war's end, the government and the security forces have initiated many programmes to assist the people of the eastern province. Moreover, the Brigade re-deployed at Thopur on 17 November 2012. 224 Brigade in Thopur conducted a series of community-oriented projects covering the Thopur, Kinniya, and Muthur areas. The brigade on 16 August 2016 and the Brigade Headquarters shifted to Kattaparichchan the name of this Infantry Brigade which was 224 at that time has been amended to 223 Infantry Brigade from 16 December 2019 by the Army Order 01/2020 issued on 01.01.2020.
