Under the guidance of the Commander of the 232 Infantry Brigade and the supervision of the Commanding Officer of the 4 Gemunu Watch (GW), a new house valued at nearly 2.5 million was constructed by the troops of 4 GW for a needy family in the Eravur area.
The project was generously sponsored by Mrs. Vathani Mohanashankar, Managing Director of Oman Lanka Mineral Exploration Pvt. Ltd., and Dr. C. Mohanashankar, Chairman and Managing Director of Middle East Petroleum LLC, Sultanate of Oman. The new house was officially vested in the beneficiary on 16 September 2024 during a brief ceremony.
The initiative was inspired by Major General D.D.U.K Hettiarachchi (Retd) RSP VSV USP ndu psc - Commisioner General of Rehabilitation, who saw a video circulating on social media highlighting the family's plight. He coordinated with the donors to make this charitable endeavor a reality. The family, comprising six members, including three school children and a disabled adult, now has a secure and stable home. The construction work was completed within a short time frame.
During the house-warming ceremony, the keys were symbolically handed over to the family by Major General W.P Kariyawasam, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, and residents in the area were among the participants in the warming ceremony.
