Major General WLAC Perera RWP RSP USP was enlisted as an officer cadet in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 15 October 1990 with the Intake PMA 2. After successfully completion of basic military training at the Pakistan Military Academy and the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the prestigious Rifle Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

During his illustrious military career, Major General Anil Perera earned a stellar reputation as a senior officer who served in important command, instuctor and staff capacities. The senior officer has held many important command and staff appointments at different levels. Such as;Platoon Commander of the 4thand 8th Battalions of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Company Commander of 4th, 8th and 12th Battalions of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, General Staff Officer III (Operations) at 23 Infantry Division, Military Observer of Democratic Republic of Congo, Officer Instructor of Institute of Peacekeeping Operation Support Training Kukuleganga, General Staff Officer II (Ops/Plan) at Joint Operational Headquarters, Second In Command of 12th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Regimental adjutant at Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Commanding Officer of 12th Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, General Staff Officer I (Training Support) at Defense Service Commandant Staff College, General Staff Officer I (Operations) at Security Forces Headquarters East, Staff Officer I (Tender Process) at Master General Ordnance Branch, Staff Officer I (Admin) and Deputy Center Commandant of Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Colonel General Staff at 14 Infantry Division, Commander of 652 and 532 Infantry Brigades, Director Operationsat Disaster Management Centre, Deputy General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division and Director General Movement at Army Headquarters.

As a true Infantry Officer, he actively participated in meticulously planned major military operations such as;WalampuriI and II, Jayapahara, Yaldevi, DedunnaI and II, ShakeHand, Thunder Strike, RiviresaI and II and Wanni Humanitarian Operation.

Major General Anil Perea served the country with dedication and valor, being a source of strength for his clan of defenders of nation. In honour of his individual acts of bravery in the face of the enemy, he has been decorated three times with “Rana Wickrama Padakkama” and “Rana Sura Padakkama”. He has also been awarded the “Uththama Seva Padakkama” for his unblemished and exemplary service in the Army.

During his adventurous journey in his military life, Major General Anil Perera had the opportunity to enhance his knowledge over the horizons by successfully completing numerous overseas and local military training courses.Among them, overseas courses such as;Young Officer Course in Pakistan,Counter Insurgency and Warfare Course in India, UN Potential Observer Course in Bangladesh and Junior Command Course in India. He also participated in regional seminar on contemporary challengers in international humanitarian law held in India.

As Local Courses, he has followed Artillery Observation Officers Course, Battalion Support Weapon Course, Regimental Signal Officer Course and IHL & HR Advance and Instructor Courses.

The academic credentials of the Senior officer include,Master of Science Degree in Management at KDU, Professional Qualification in Human Resources Management, National Diploma in Human Rescuer Training and Development at Chartered Institute of Personnel Management and Diploma in Defence Management (India) are significant.

He is a proud product of Harischandra Maha Vidyalaya Negombo. Throughout his academic tenure, he distinguished himself not only academically but also in various sporting disciplines, such as soccer, athletics and other extra-curricular activities such as Cadet and Scout in which he held the position of Cadet Sergeant in 1988.He also holds the position of the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Baseball Committee and was elected as Vice President of the National Baseball Federation at present.

Major General Anil Perea counts over 33 years of loyal and unblemished record of service. His interests includes travelling and reading and also, he is practicing Buddhist. He married and blessed with a son and a daughter.
