SINHALA AND HINDU NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS IN 22 INFANTRY DIVISION

According to the concept of General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division, Major General PAM Peiris RSP USP psc, a new Year festival and a grand musical night were held with the aim of developing reconciliation and harmony between the Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil people residing in Trincomalee area, on 25.04.2024 at the 22 Infantry Division Headquarters ground.

General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division, Major General PAM Peiris RSP USP psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Brigade Commanders of 221, 222, and 223 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers, Commanding Officers, Officers, other ranks and a large number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people living in Trincomalee area taken part for the event.

The festival featured traditional aesthetic events and various games such as marathons, selection of the ‘Avurudu Kumara and Kumari,’ tug of war, pillow fighting, Kolam Rata drawing competition, eye-placing on the elephant, bun eating, coconut-scraping, playing musical chairs, lime balancing race, and many other Sinhala and Tamil traditional games.

Further, Major General S A Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc participated as the chief guest for the Musical Night and GOC 22 Infantry Division, Commander 221, 222, 223 Infantry Brigades, DIG Trincomalee, business dignitaries, and a large number of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people living in the area were participated.

The musical night was graced with the participation of a host of famous singing stars Bhathia and Santhush including the Army Band and Dancing Team.
