Expanding its ongoing house construction projects, The Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, along with Mrs. Nayomi Ranaweera, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Seva Vanitha Branch, completed one more house for a deserving SLAWC soldier, Lance Corporal D.M.N Subashini of the 3 (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps and formally warmed it during a ceremony in Welikanda.
Lance Corporal Subashini, a dedicated soldier serving at Security Force Headquarters (East), was undergoing tremendous hardships with her unemployed husband and two children as she did not own a house. Responding swiftly to alleviate their plight, Mr. Gengasuthan Mylvaganam a known philanthropist generously contributed Rs. 1.2 Million, as per the request of the Commander, SFHQ (East) to facilitate the construction of a new dwelling for this deserving family.
On 21 February 2024, the, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Seva Vanitha Branch amidst a gathering of esteemed guests and military personnel, graced the House warming ceremony, symbolically presenting the keys to Lance Corporal Subashini and her family. Additionally, essential household appliances were provided, ensuring their transition into their new home is smooth and comfortable.
This initiative holds profound significance, transcending ethnic boundaries, as Lance Corporal Subashini, is hailing from the Sinhala community her husband, representing the Islamic faith and, the philanthropist is of a Tamil origin that embody the rich diversity of Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Army, through this housing project, reaffirms its commitment to foster reconciliation and ethnic harmony, exemplifying that unity knows no ethnic or cultural divides within its ranks.
