Under the guidance of Commander Security Forces (East), Major General MKUP Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, an awareness programme was conducted at Kathankudy Madhya Maha Vidyalaya in collaboration of Security Forces (East) and Federation of Kathankudy Mosques and Islamic Institutions with a view of preventing youth resorting to drugs.
Mr. Abdul Cadar Abdul Rahim, Senior Program Officer of Alcohol and Drug Information Center (ADIC), and Mr. Samsudeen Tastir, retired Food and Beverage Safety Officer were the resource personnel who conducted lectures in the programme. The program is a great success as nearly 600 school children and young adults of Kathankudy area attended this programme.
Eastern Commander Major General MKUP Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG expressing his idea stated that drug addiction is a major form of non-traditional threat faced by the country and it important to make our youth aware about the severity and danger of drug addiction. He also stated that the drug menace today is destroying the country’s future by targeting our young generation. He further stated that, Security Forces (East) is committed to conduct similar programs throughout the Eastern Province and Pollonnaruwa District with a view of preparing our younger generation to face the impending threat from the drug menace. He also thanked all civil organizations, religious and community leaders who are tirelessly working hand-in-hand with security forces to save our young generation from drug addiction.
Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division, Commander 243 Brigade,Commanding Officers in the area together with the president of the Federation of Kathankudy Mosques and Islamic Institutions Mr. Rauf Majeeth, religious/community leaders and heads of civil organizations attended the event.
