CHAMPION OF INTER DIVISION VOLLEYBALL TOURNEMANT IN THE EASTERN GAMES IN 2022 CELEBRATES BY 23 INFANTRY DIVISION.

With a concept and directions of Commander, Security Forces (East), Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi and close supervision of the General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Major General Shewanth Kulathunge, the Inter Division Volleyball tournament of Security Forces (East) was Organized by 23 Infantry Division. The preliminary round matches of this tournament started with the participation of Volleyball teams, Security Forces Headquarters – East, Forward Maintenance Area (East), 22, 23 and 24 Infantry Divisions at the Volleyball court of “7th Light Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery” Minneriya. All the teams displayed professionalism and 22 and 23 infantry Divisions qualified for the final by dominating the other teams. The final match of the tournament was held in the “National Indoor Stadium” at Gallella - Polonnaruwa, on 20 December 2022.

Furthermore, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the tournament with hyped up enthusiasm as it enhances comradeship, determination, courage, discipline and sportsmanship among all participants as well as spectators.In a competitive five-setter, 23 Infantry Division secured the championship with 3-2 victory over 22 Infantry Division in the final match of Inter Division Volleyball Tournament - 2022 of Security Forces (East). A display of Tamil Cultural dancing by “Vishwa Bharath Dancing Academy” and a display of “Eastern” Band event by 7thLight Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, 9th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery and 7th Field Regiment Sri Lanka Engineers with together, witnessed by a large gathering of “Volleyball fans” and distinguished guests delighting the event a more glamorous, colorful and cheerful one.The following were specially commended and given trophies for their exceptional performances.

* Best Blocker - S/02989 Bdr Dasanayake DMPV (5 SLA) - 22 Division

* Best Attacker - S/157740 Bdr Ilukwaththa IWST (7 SLA) - 23 Division

* Best Setter - S/158149 Bdr Navurunna LASD (7 SLA) - 23 Division

General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Major General Shewanth Kulathunge graced the occasion as the chief guest. Infantry Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Staff Officers of Eastern theater and distinguished invitees participated the occasion. Towards the end of the presentation ceremony Chief Guest stood for a group photograph with both the teams.
