Environmentally-conscious 18 VIR troops launched a coastal belt clearing program on 10 December 2021 from Sinnamuttuwaram to Akkaraipattu with the aim of promoting reconciliation between civil society and the Sri Lanka Army.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division Major General Chaminda Lamahewa and Commander 241 Infantry Brigade Brigadier Chandra Abeykoon supervised this project. Commanding Officer 18Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major Darshana Sirisena and the troops carried out this worthy cause in partnership with fisheries community in Kalmunai.
