Major General P M L Chandrasiri WWV RWP RSP ndu assumed office as the 22nd Commander Security Force (East) on 15 December 2021 amidst traditional military formalities being accomplished at the Security Force Headquarters (East) premises, Welikanda.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the incoming Commander being accorded a Guard Turnout on his arrival to the premises. He was warmly received by the Brigadier General Staff SFHQ (E) Brigadier Sujeewa Jayasinghe who invited the Commander to review the Guard of Honour, accorded by the troops of 4th Battalion, the Gemunu Watch.
The newly appointed Commander Security Force (East) Major General Lal Chandeasiri symbolically accepted his new appointment, placing his signature on an official document at the auspicious minute amidst chanting of Seth Pirith by Maha Sangha. Later on, the Commander posed for a group photograph with the GOCs, Brigade Commanders, COs and Staff Officers of the SFHQ (E).
Setting out his scope of work and duties, the Commander Security Force (East) rose to his feet to address the troops where he urged them to be determined to ensure the unity among the Officers and Other Ranks and to ensure personal health adhering to safety precautions during this pandemic situations. Further, he insisted the need of preserving the image of the Army through maintenance of highest standards of discipline at all levels to ensure the Security Force Headquarters (East) functions most efficiently and effectively and highlighted the vested responsibility of the Army to strengthen the government’s effort of producing organic fertilizer as a national endeavor in present context.
Apart from the appointment of the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Lal Chandrasiri is also holding the appointment of Colonel of the Regiment of the GW Regiment. Prior to be appointed as the Commander SF(East), this senior officer served as the Overall Security Coordinator of the AHQ and Director General Infantry AHQ.
