In order to alleviate hardships, faced by civilians due to COVID-19 pandemic, a distribution of dry rations and essential items was conducted on Sunday (01) among the needy families living in Welikanda and Dimbulagala DS Divisions and 10 water tanks for needy Temples in the area. The project, proposed by the Commander 233 Infantry Brigade, Colonel Wasantha Hewage was conducted under the guidance and presence of the Commander, Security Force - East Major General Channa Weerasuriya and the General Officer Commanding of the 23 Infantry Division Major General Nalin Koswaththe.
The donation programme was sponsored by the past pupils of Royal College, Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura Campus by donating 100 dry ration packs (worth nearly Rs. 580,000.00) for needy pregnant mothers and 10 water tanks for needy temples in the area. Before starting the donation project Professor Chamari Jayasinghe conducted a counseling lecture for pregnant mothers who participated in the donation project.
Professor Chamari Jayasinghe, Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya, past pupils of Royal College, Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura Campus, Divisional Secretaries of Welikanda and Dimbulagala DS Divisions, Mr Chaminda Munasinghe, Desamanya Desabandu Yasantha Perera, Saduni Lokubalasooriya, Miss Samanthi Wijeywardhana, Miss Swarnakanthi Samarasinghe, Mr Bojaya Kasun, Civil Affairs Officer 233 Infantry Brigade and the troops of 9 SLA attended the donation project. The event was conducted adhering to Covid - 19 health guidelines.
