With the conceptual guidance of the environmentally-conscious Major General Rasika Fernando the Commander Security Forces (East), a mega beach clean-up project got underway on Friday (06) covering the coastal regions of the Eastern Province that have been increasingly subjected to pollution.
More than 1000 troops of 22 Division 23 Division and 24 Division under command to Security Forces (East), joining hands with school children, volunteers and state employees in the respective areas lent their helping hand to this worthy cause by cleaning beaches which remained highly polluted due to heaps of discarded wrappers, empty beer cans and polythene waste.
The project was launched around Fort Fredric, Orrs’ Hill, Koneshwaram, Maniyaweli beaches in Trincomalee, Kayankerni, Kaththakudy, Kalkudah in Batticaloa district and Kalmunai, Pottuvil, Arugam bay in Ampara district.
