With the invitation of the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General Rasika Fernando, a statue of former Chief Incumbent of Dimbulagala Raja Maha Vihara Most Venerable late Matara Kithalagama Sri Seelalankara Thera (also known as Dimbulagala Sinhaya), was unveiled at Seelapura Junction, Manampitiya under the patronage of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc on January 08.
The statue was opened in memory of the invaluable service rendered by the Matara Kithalagama Sri Seelalankara Thera who was the pioneer in restoring the ancient Buddhist monastery Dimbulagala Raja Maha Vihara in the 1950s and in uplifting the living standards of poor peasants who lived in the surrounding areas of the Polonnaruwa District.
The statue was built with the blessings of the Lekhakadhikari Thero of Dimbulagala Sasanarakshaka Balamandalaya and the Chief Incumbent of Maganthota Sri Dhammaraja Viharaya, Ven. Aththanakadawala Janathalankara Thero, the Chief Sanghanayaka of the North Eastern and Tamankaduva areas, Ven. Millane Siriyalankara thero and with the financial contribution of Ven. Kadawatha Pabbathalankara Thero.
Senior officers, public representatives and a large gathering of civil community were present in this event.
