ASSUMING DUTIES OF NEW GOC 23 DIVISION

Brigadier A G D N Jayasundara RWP RSP of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment assumed duties as the 22nd General Officer Commanding of 23 Division on Wednesday (20).

A series of formalities, held at the Headquarters 23 Division Punani in connection with the commencement of the Office began with reviewing of the Guard Turnout, accorded to the newly-appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) on arrival at the venue. The GOC reviewed the Guard of Honour accorded to him by troops of the 11 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Singha Regiment in keeping with military traditions afterwards.

Invoking the blessings of the Mahasangha and religious rituals were accomplished in the Office of the General Officer Commanding. Amidst chanting of Seth Pirith, Brigadier Dhammika Jayasundara placed his signature on an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the Office on his new appointment at the auspicious time.

He, afterwards planted a sapling at the premises to signify his inauguration of the office and addressed the troops followed by an all rank tea.

All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks under the 23 Division attended the occasion to congratulate on his new appointment.
