Troops serving in 241 Brigade under the Security Force Headquarters (East) launched a coastal belt cleaning project on Wednesday (07) at Sinnamuhuduwaran costal area Akkaraipattu which was highly polluted due to the discarded wrappers, empty beer cans and heaps of polythene.
Under the guidance of Colonel WBJK Wimalaratna, Commander 241 Brigade, Civil Coordinating Officer Major ULC Jayasena and Major GRA Punyasiri launched the cleaning programme.
The Officers of 241 Brigade, two Police Officers of Akkaraipattu Police Station, Officers of Divisional Secretariat Alayadiwembu and Akkaraipattu, Municipal Council Akkaraipattu, Alayadiwembu and Akkaraipattu Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. KM Rifaz - the Engineer of Coastal Conservation Department Ampara District, Mr. Saman Rajapaksha from Kolavil Sports Club and 450 people from Alayadiwembu and Akkaraipattu area participated in the project.
