THE TROOPS OF SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (EAST) PLEDGE TO PRESERVE THE 'THRIPITAKA'

The staff of Security Force Headquarters (East) pledged to be dedicated upon the preservation of the 'Thripitaka', in order to prevent any attempt to damage or distort the Pali Buddhist Canon which consists of the discourses of the Buddha, during the 'Pledging Ceremony' held at Headquarters premises, Welikanda today. In line with the 'Tripitakabhivandana' week, declared by the Government of Sri Lanka from 16 to 23 March, a number of events have been organized by the Security Force Headquarters (East) giving prominence to religious observances.

Pali Tripitaka is the most prominent sacred heritage in the Buddhist world which is regarded as the most authentic and well-documented scriptures of Buddhist learning. Emphasis was placed on the significance of the Thripitaka for the preservation, in order to endow the relevance of the Buddha’s timeless message for future generations. On a directive of the Presidential Secretariat, it is to be now declared a World Heritage considering its historic value.
