As the outset of series of programmes carried out parallel to the 5th Anniversary of 24 Division, a full-day Blood Donation Campaign was organized at the Headquarters premises under the guidance of General Officer Commanding 24 Division, Major General Mahinda Mudalige, joining hands with the Blood Banks of Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Dehiaththakandiya, Mahaoya and Kalmunei on 16 Friday November 18.
The campaign was commenced in the morning with the presence of General Officer Commanding 24 Division, Consultant Blood Bank - Blood Transfusion Service Unit Ampara, Dr. Hansa Ramanayake and his team consisting 6 doctors and 44 other medical staff from the blood banks of Ampara, Kalmunei, Dehiaththakandiya, Polonnaruwa, Mahaoya and Brigadier Damitha Ranasinghe - Comd 242 Brigade, Colonel Wipula Chandrasiri – Comd 241 Brigade, Colonel Deepal Hathurusingha– Col AQ 24 Div and several other senior officers were in attendance to inaugurate the programme. The outgoing Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala also visited the above programme as a special guest coincided to his farewell visit to 24 Division Headquarters.
This programme was organized consecutively during the past 3 years at the 24 Division and more than 700 Officers and Other Ranks voluntarily came forwarded to donate their blood during the campaign. 24 Division organized and provided snacks and refreshments to the blood donors and for the medical staff who came from Polonnaruwa and Ampara hospitals.
This programme will be an immense benefit to the majority of Muslim and Tamil people who live in Ampara District and other provinces as well. Director General Hospital Ampara and medical staff rendered their special thanks to the GOC and staff of the 24 Division for organizing such a timely valuable event.
