Security Force Headquarters (East), under the directions and guidance of the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, organized a series of events coincide with the main programme of the Sri Lanka Army’s 69th Anniversary.
The Army flag was hoisted today morning (10) at the Headquarters premises in Welikanda under the auspices of the Brigadier General Staff, Brigadier Shantha Hewawitharana followed by the Army Song being recited. Afterwards, a two-minute silence in memory of all War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of the motherland was observed and the message of the Commander of the Army issued to mark the 69th Army Day was read out by the Brigadier Admin & Quartering, Brigadier Michael Wanniarachchi. A tree planting campaign was carried out planting hundreds of saplings in the headquarter premises culminating 69th Army Day celebrations. A large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Force Headquarters (East) including civil employees attended the event.
Further, the programme arranged parallel to the 69th Army Day included a Blood Donation Campaign with the active participation of the troops of the Security Force (East) on the previous day on 09 (Tuesday) in coordination with the Polonnaruwa General Hospital and Polonnaruwa Blood Bank. The campaign was supported by 127 Officers and Other Ranks, donating their blood for this worthy cause.
