Commander Security Forces (East)

Major General PR Pathiravithana USAWC psc is a proud product of Ananda College, Colombo, where he excelled academically and in sports. His formative years shaped his discipline, leadership and dedication.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet under Intake 34 on 14 July 1990. He commenced his initial training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 2 July 1992. His first posting was to the Corps of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps.

Starting his career in the 3rd Sri Lanka Armoured Corps as a Troop Commander, Major General Pathiravithana participated in numerous military operations across Sri Lanka. Holding various responsibilities at different ranks, he gained extensive experience in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations. He also served as the Commanding Officer of the 9th, 8th, and 3rd Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (Rft).

He showcased his leadership and operational expertise during his tenure with the United Nations Mission in Haiti, playing a pivotal role in managing critical aspects of the mission’s operational framework. He later served as the General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division.

Currently, Major General Pathiravithana serves as the Commander Security Forces (East), Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka National Guard and Chairman of the Cricket Council, Sri Lanka Army.
