BATTICALOA DISTRICT NEW YEAR FESTIVAL ORGANIZED BY THE 23 DIVISION AT THE VANDARAMULLA CENTRAL COLLEGE GROUNDS ON 22ND APRIL 2017
The Sinhala and Tamil New Year which brings people together, irrespective of race, caste or creed, rekindles the bonds that exist between nature and humankind. 23 Division joined hands together with all ethnic groups in the area to celebrate the ‘Sinhala and Tamil New Year’, the annual auspicious event, giving pride of place to traditional New Year games. \r\n\r\nA large number of civilians from all communities (Sinhala, Tamil, Moore) participated in the New Year Festival which comprised many games such as marathon, bicycle race, eye-placing on the elephant, grease-pole climbing, pot cracking, pillow fighting, tracing of hidden guest, hurdle runs, cadjan weaving, tug-of-war, musical hat, fancy dresses, counting of papaya seeds, kabaddi, selecting of new year prince and princess. Clergy from all religions attended to the religious rituals. District Secretary BATTICALOA Mrs. PSM Charles graced the event as the chief guest. General Officer Commanding 23 Division Major General HWSDB Pananwala RSP ndu, Senior DIG EA Sumith Edirisinghe, senior government officials and senior military officers were participated as guests in this grand event. \r\n
