SECURITY FORCES - EAST HOLDS SINHALA AND HINDU NEW YEAR FESTIVAL FOR THE TROOPS AND THE COMMUNITY OF THE EASTERN PROVINCE

Security Forces Headquarters (East) held a Sinhala and Hindu New Year Festival in a grand scale at Shivananda School playground in Batticaloa on 09th April 2015 with the participation of all troops under command of 22, 23, 24 Divisions and FMA(E) under the guidance of Major General NJ Walgama RSP USP ndu psc, the Commander of Security Force (East) . The highlight of the festival was the large participation of the civilians of all racial groups in the province. It was observed that a great unity and harmony among the troops and the civilians prevailed during the ceremony. Several traditional New Year festival events such as \'raban\' display\' \'kottapora\' and many other colorful pageants like fancy dress parade, \'Aurudu kumara\' and \'kumari\' were organized at the festival. At the end of the ceremony Sri Lanka Beat group entertained the participants. Mr Austin Fernando, the Hon Governor of the Eastern Province and Mr Hafeez Nazeer Ahmed the Chief Minister of Eastern Provincial Council, the religious leaders of the province including the Bishop of Batticaloa Rev DR Joseph Ponnaiya along with several military and civil dignitaries were present at the event.
