Giving prominence to Sinhala and Tamil New Year customs and traditions, the troops of 24 Division conducted a 'Bakmaha Ulela' at the Division Headquarters premises on 11 April 2019. It was the third consecutive year the ceremony conducted with the guidance of Major General L M Mudalige RWP RSP ndu General Officer Commanding 24 Division.
The event commenced with the Marathon officially flagged by GOC, the Chief Guest followed by hoisting the national flag and lighting the traditional oil lamp by distinguished invitees. The troops participated in the event with their family members and it was a platform to enhance the solidarity among them.
The event comprised of all the traditional games pertaining to the New Year festival and winners were awarded with valuable gifts. Similarly, all the children who attended for this event were given valuable gifts. The role play done by the troops at 'Gami Gedara' were highly impressive and depicted the Sri Lankan heritage. A buffet lunch was provided to all attended and transport facilities were arranged to nearest towns after the event.
The programme concluded with a musical show presented by the Beat Group of the Gamunu Watch entertaining all participants.
Brigadier Damitha Ranasinghe Commander 242 Brigade, Colonel Wipula Chandrasiri Commander 241 Brigade, SP Rathnayake Zonal Commander - STF Ampara, SSP Samantha Wijesekara, CI Lasantha Daladage HQI Ampara, Dr. Upul Wijenayake Director Hospital Ampara and all staff of Base Hospital Ampara attended the event.
