TROOPS' INITIATIVE GETS BICYCLES FOR NEEDY STUDENTS IN THIKILIWEDDAI

In order to stimulate students for studies and facilitate their routine movements, the 232 Infantry Brigade and the 12th Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard jointly worked and received the support of the donors to provide bicycles to 15 needy school students of Kayankuda, Thikiliweddai School in Batticaloa District, during a brief ceremony held on Monday (04).

Under the guidance of Brigadier Ruwan Wijesuriya, the Commander 232 Infantry Brigade, Commanding Officer of 12 SLNG, Lieutenant Colonel Dinesh Senarathna organized the bicycle donation programme after selecting the most deserving students from different families. The generous donors Mr Janaka Samarasekara, Mrs Nimali Dissanayake, living in Australia and Mr Udaya Kumara, living in United Kingdom provided the financial sponsorship to purchase those bicycles for those needy students in the area. Parents, teachers and relatives were also present during the distribution ceremony.

The Commander Security Force East, Major General Lal Chandrasiri graced the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest, together with the General Officer Commanding 23 Infantry Division, Major General Nalin Koswatte and several Senior Officers.
