Troops of the 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment(VIR) at Kallar under the 222 Infantry Brigade together with farming community in Serunuwara and Kallar area, recently initiated a welfare project to clean a Canal loading to minor tanks, running through paddy-fields in the area on 30 November 2022. The cleaning project was conducted under the directions given by the Major General Saliya Amunugama, General Officer Commanding 22 Infantry Division and guidance of 222 Brigade Commander and Commanding Officer of 24 VIR.
Many families in the area use this canal for their amenities and farming purposes. This cannel is one of the major Canals running from Mavilaru River and feeding many paddy fields in Dehiwatte and Neelapola along nearly 20 Km. The project has been appreciated by the villagers and they highlighted that after the cleaning project approximately 600 Hectares of abandoned paddy and lands can re cultivate.
