On a directive by General Officer Commanding 24 Division, Major General Mahinda Mudalige, the Headquarters of 24 Division together with its under command formations joined hands with the District Secretariat and Urban Council Ampara to illuminate the Ampara town with Poson Lanterns to coincide with the Poson Full Moon Poya day on 27 June. These lanterns will be exhibited for four days until the 30 June and troops of 11 SLNG organised a Belimal Dansala during the same period in the Poson Zone.
On 28th June the display of Poson Lanterns was opened by the presence of the General Officer Commanding of 24 Division, Colonel AQ 24 Division Colonel TH Draheem together with Colonel Coordinating Officer 24 Division Col AK Wehalla. It was significant that the lanterns were made by using natural raw materials. Divisional Secretariat Ampara made arrangements to offer valuable gifts for all the winners.
