Being parallel with the Island wide religious observances conducted under the directions of Commander of the Army, troops of Security Force Headquarters East during a Kapruk Pooja and a special Bodhi Pooja that concluded on January 14, 2020 at Polonnaruwa Somawathiya Pagoda premises invoked blessings on the Sri Lankans / Security Forces for the New Year and the victims of the natural disasters / unexpected catastrophes reported in Sri Lanka and around the world including the recent terrible wildfires occurred in Australia. Accordingly, the under command formations of the Security Forces (East) also conducted similar events in the dawn of the New Year.
The event was conducted under the patronage of Chief Incumbent of Somawathiya Raja Maha Viharaya Ven. Pahamune Sri Sumangala Thera and Maha Sanga. At the occasion, the Maha Sanga chanted Seth Pirith to invoke blessings and special Kapruk Pooja was conducted to the ancient Somawathi Sthupa. Meanwhile, the troops offered a Belimal Dansala to the devotees gathered at the Somawathi Raja Maha Viharaya.
