22 Division footballers of the Security Force Headquarters (East) competing in the Security Forces (East) Inter Division Football Finals 2022, emerged victorious for the consecutive 4th time, defeating 23 Division team for 1-0 during the finals at the Ehamparam grounds in Trincomalee on 10 December 2022.
Both teams played aggressively from the start of the match and posed threats to opponents in both teams, but 22 Division players, not to be outdone, kept the opponents at bay by foiling all scoring chances of the opponents. The tournament was conducted with the participation of football teams representing Security Forces Headquarters (East), 22, 23, 24 Infantry Divisions and Forward Maintenance Area (East). After playing a series of games by the teams, the selected best players were given an opportunity to play for the Division Team. The victorious 22 Division team consisted of the players from 2 (V) GR of 221 Infantry Brigade, 24 VIR of 222 Infantry Brigade and 6 SLAC (Rft) of 223 Infantry Brigade.
Major General S R K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP USP ndu psc Commander Security Forces (East), graced the finals as the chief guest and awarded certificates, medals and trophies to the winners. The tournament was organized under the directions of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 22 Infantry Division, Major General S B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu and Colonel RMSP Rathnayake USP psc IG Commander 221 Infantry Brigade coordinated the entire event.
Commander, FMA (East), Major General M W T C Meththananda USP ndc, Major General S A Kulathunga RWP RSP USP psc, GOC, 23 Infantry Division, Major General S W B Welagedara RSP USP ndc, 24 Infantry Division, all Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senor Officers and distinguished invitees graced the occasion.
A display of Army Angampora games, a Taekwondo event and a display of Western Band of the Gajaba Regiment, witnessed by a large gathering of football fans and distinguished guests delighting the event a more glamorous, colorful and cheerful one. Towards the end of the awarding ceremony, the Commander, Security Forces (East) presented the Security Forces East Football Trophy - 2022 to the winning team of the 22Division.
