SFHQ(E) ORGANIZES A MEETING TO DISCUSS THE PREPARATION OF UPCOMING DISASTER MITIGATION PLAN

With the guidance of the Commander Security Force (East), Major General Channa Weerasuriya, a meeting with the officials of Disaster Management Centre and related authorities in the Eastern Province, was conducted on 23 September 2021 at the Security Force Headquarters (East).

The discussion has been structured with the aim of reviewing the progress of preparation processes for the possible disaster situations related to the upcoming North East monsoon season. In that, the officials of the Disaster management Centre were given the opportunity to discuss the practical problematical areas of their Area of Responsibility when engaging in disaster mitigation and relief operations.

Moreover, it was highlighted the importance of stimulating an integrated and effective disaster mitigation process in partnership with the Disaster Management Centers and the Security Forces in the area. At the same time, the discussion was further extended to discuss on the illegal activities which carries a greater impact to enhance the affection of the disasters such as illegal sand mining and timber cuttings.

Brigadier General Staff Security Force Headquarters East, Colonel General Staff of 22 and 24 Divisions, the Assistant Directors of Disaster Management Centres Ampara, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa and Staff Officers of SFHQ(E) attended for the discussion.
