SFHQ (EAST) ORGANIZE ANOTHER COMMUNITY RELATED PROJECT WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF NUTRIENT PACKS TO PREGNANT WOMEN IN KOKKADICHOLEI

As per the guidance and initiative taken by Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the Commander, Security Forces (East), the Security Forces Headquarters (East) organized an event to distribute dry ration packs among 20 pregnant women on Wednesday (March 13) at a simple ceremony held at the Kokkadicholei Cultural Centre.

The programme was coordinated and fully funded by Major General (retd) Shiran Abesekara, the head of estates and President, Mrs. Dilanthi Ranaweera, the Manager Environmental Social & Governance and Mr. Dinesh Silva, the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, of the philanthropist organization, the Silvermill & Vitacoco Foundation. Overall, an amount of over Rs. 1.2 million was spent for this programme, with each nutrient pack estimated around Rs 7,000 rupees. The event was organized under the supervision of Brigadier KMCS Kumarasinghe, the Commander, 243 Infantry Brigade, by the troops of the 11th (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under the leadership of Major TMN Pathmasiri, the Commanding Officer, of the 11th (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

During the event, 500 coconut seedlings, 120 hybrid seed packs and 120 packets of fertilizer were also donated to the needy people of the Kockkadicholei. Further, an awareness programme about the new trends and methods of agriculture was conducted to educate people in the area.

Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, the Commander, Security Forces (East), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Major General (retd) Shiran Abesekara, Major General Wipula Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding 24 Infantry Division, Brigadier Chaminda Kumarasinghe, the Commander, 243 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officers of Security Forces Headquarters (East), and troops of the 11th (V) Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment took part in the event. Mr. MM Sudahar the Divisional Secretary of Kokkadicholei, Rev. Ebenazer Joseph Bishop of Methodist Church Sri Lanka and other invitees also participated in the event.
