Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) extended its best assistance to the Polonnaruwa District Secretariat in conducting the provincial commemoration of the 71st Independence Day at Royal College grounds, Polonnaruwa.
The ceremony commenced with hoisting the national flag, by the Chief Guest of the occasion, the Governor of North Central Province, Mr. Sarath Ekanayaka. Students at Polonnaruwa Royal College afterwards recited Jayamangala and Devo Vassatu Kalena stanzas and invoked blessings on the Nation. A two-minute silence was also observed in memory of all patriots who scarified their lives for the Motherland.
Afterwards, the Chief Guest Hon. Governor of the North Central Province, Mr. Sarath Ekanayaka was accorded by Police, Civil Security Department and School Cadets. A cultural display followed by a memorial programme brought the day's itinerary to an end.
Religious dignitaries, District Secretary of Polonnaruwa Mr. Panduka SP Abeywardana, Commander FMA (East) Major General Manoj Mudannayaka, General Officer Commanding 23 Division Brigadier Kapila Udalupola, State Officials, Senior Officers of Sri Lanka Police, Civil Security Department and a host of invitees were present.
Meanwhile, the troops of SFHQ (East) contributed for a Shramadana Campaign conducted to clean Sewanapitiya Town, in line with the independence day.
