SF HQ (EAST) JOINS WITH " BAK MAHA DIVURUMA" - NATIONAL PLEDGE TO ERADICATE DRUG MENACE

In line with the ‘ Bak Maha Divuruma,’ - National Pledge to eradicate drug menace, the Island wide program launched under the guidance of HE the President Maithripala Sirisena on 03April, to invite all Sri Lankans to join together to make Sri Lanka a drug free country by implementing a broad attitude change initiate from family to the entire society, the Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Forces Headquarters (East) too stood together with this worthy attempt to eradicate drugs on behalf of the future generation.

With the guidance of Major General Aruna Jayasekera, the Commander Security Forces (East), a brief ceremony was held at SF HQ (East), in concurrence with the live-streamed (through electronic media) main function held at the Independence Square in Colombo under the patronage of the HE the President, where Brigadier Michael Wanniarachchi – Brigadier (Admin & Quartering) of SF HQ (East) joined with the troops in taking the oath after hoisting the National Flag followed by reciting the National Anthem.

Addressing the troops, Brigadier AQ at SF HQ (E) highlighted the vulnerability of Army personnel being the victims of the illegal drug mafia and its destructive outcomes that would tarnish the image of the Sri Lanka Army and affect the family units and the whole society.

With the insightful leadership of the Commander of the Army, the Army, ‘the Guardians of the Nation’, is already playing an active role in eradicating drug menace from the country, working in close corporation with the relevant agencies in this national endeavor. Accordingly, the Army is involving in conducting education programmes countrywide especially targeting school children, rendering assistance to the police and the drug enforcement authorities to curb the drug menace in the country, involving in rehabilitating those addicted to drugs at rehabilitation centres located in Senapura and Kandakadu, supporting to the police and other law enforcement authorities by providing vital information to facilitate arresting those engaged in drug trafficking, educating military personnel on drugs and on the various types of drugs so that they are better informed to make such detections and etc.
