As the festive season unfolds with forthcoming phenomenal Christmas, the Security Force (East) contributing its share, held the 'Christmas Angelic Eve - 2019', the Annual Christmas Carols on Thursday (19) at Gandhi Park, Batticaloa before a distinguished gathering, including the Bishop of Batticaloa Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah as the Chief Guest and the Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Rasika Fernando as the Guest of Honour. This glamorous event was organized by 23 Division and 231 Brigade in conjunction with the Christian community of Batticaloa, with the supervision of the Security Force Headquarters (East).
The proceedings of the evening commenced by reciting the National Anthem and adding festive atmosphere to the occasion, the welcome dance stole the hearts of the gathering. The event was made more solemn with lighting of the oil lamp and Christmas message delivered by His Lordship the Bishop of Batticaloa Rt Rev. Dr. Joseph Ponniah reminding the gathering of the true meaning of Christmas. The Choirs of St. Methodist Church, Akkaraipattu Parish Church, Nawakkudha Parish Church, Ampara Parish Church, American Mission Church Batticaloa and Children of St. Michael College together with the Army Choir sang odes and hymns jointly to the Prince of the Peace, Jesus Christ and few cultural items also were performed symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ.
Addressing the gathering, the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General Rasika Fernando extended his greetings on the joyous occasion of Christmas and made everyone ponder that the glow of Christmas spreads a message of peace, joy and the spirit of sharing amongst people who cherish the values of Christianity and promotes the ethnic and religious harmony among communities.
The evening glamorized with a distribution of gifts for kids and dry ration packs for needy people along with a colorful display of fireworks. The occasion was also coloured with a decorated Christmas tree and various decorations to mark the birth of Jesus Christ. The elegant evening ended with a Traditional dinner hosted to His Lordship Bishop and the entire guests at Headquarters 231 Brigade.
Religious dignitaries representing Buddhist, Hindu and Islamic faiths, General Officer Commanding 22 Division Major General Athula Marasinghe, General Officer Commanding 24 Division Major General Chinthaka Gamage, General Officer Commanding 23 Division Major General Dhammika Jayasundara, Senior Officers representing Sister Services and Police were present among the distinguished invitees.
