The Commander Security Force (East) insisted that "Releasing of military held lands would showcase the commitment of the Army towards the reconciliation efforts carried out by the government", at the ceremony held at Divisional Secretariat Ampara while handing over military held lands to their legitimate owners.
Documents pertaining to the releasing of these land plots were formally delivered to the Hon. Governor of the Eastern Province Mr. M L A M Hizbullah, Chief Secretary of the Provincial Council – Eastern Province Mr. D. M. Sarath Abayagunawardhana and District Secretary Ampara Mr. D M L Bandaranayake by the Commander Security Force (East) Major General K P AJayasekera WWV RSP USP ndc psc, during a brief ceremony held on 18 January 2019.
39.25 acres of land of Pallekadu area of Kalmunai DS Division was handed over to the legitimate owners at the ceremony.
The Commander also said that the decision to handover these lands was taken after verifying the original owners and reviewing whether such a release would have any impact on the security of the area.
Land releasing in the Eastern Province was expedited on the directions of the Commander Security Force (East) in line with the direction given by the HE the President during Presidential Task Force for North and Eastern Development Meetings.
