SF (EAST) TO CONTRIBUTE FOR QUARANTINE OF COVID 19

On the directions of the Ministry of Health & Indigenous Medical Services and acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the Security Force Headquarters East to be put up two new Quarantine Centers at Batticaloa Campus Punani and Rehabilitation Centre Kandakadu to have Sri Lankans and foreigners arriving from Iran, Italy and South Korea quarantined for two weeks against Coronavirus.

The Batticaloa Campus Punani was temporarily acquired for these quarantining purposes by virtue of the powers vested to the Ministry of Health & Indigenous Medical Services as the proper authority under the Quarantine and Prevention of Deceases Ordinance No. 3 of 1897 and regulations made thereunder. Considering this prioritized requirement and to be in line with this government’s measure to prevent transmission of Corona Virus -2019 (COVID 19), Sri Lanka Army is engaged in this national requirement.

The troops of Eastern Command have upgraded the Quarantine Centres of Rehabilitation Centre Kandakadu and Batticaloa Campus Punani furnished with basic needs to keep 300 and 800 persons with the symptoms of COVID 19 respectively and equipped with medical tools, Wi-Fi communication facilities, thermometers, laundry and entertainment facilities suit to medically sound quarantine purposes by keeping each occupant for an incubation period of two weeks, coupled with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). These Quarantine Centres to be functioned from Monday the 9th March.
