A SERIES OF PROGRAMMES IN POLONNARUWA TO MARK POSON FESTIVAL
\r\nA series of programmes were held on June 08, 09 and 10 in Polonnaruwa under the patronage of His Excellency the President of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr Maithripala Sirisena to mark the Poson Poya day, in view of invoking blessings on people affected by floods and landslides, as well as the general public and the country.\r\nThe Poson “Maha Bath Dansala” organized by the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army was held on June 08 and 09 in Polonnaruwa for the 57th consecutive year and HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Chairman of the Polonnaruwa Buddhist Association declared open this to the public. With the guidance of the Comd SF (E) Maj Gen Nandana Senadeera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu, troops of the battalions under command to FMA (E) contributed in preparing the meals. \r\nThe “Pulathisi Poson Udanaya programme” organized by the Sri Lanka Army was held in the premises of historic “Gal Viharaya” and the exposition of sacred relics taken from “Nelligala Raja Maha Viharaya” was opened for the worship of devotees by HE the President on 09 June and continued for two days.\r\n\r\nA Poson Zone consisted of nearly 75 lanterns created by the members of the tri-services, was also held in Polonnaruwa where the 40 lanterns represented the Sri Lanka Army deserved special praise of the visitors. GOC 23 Div Maj Gen Dammika Pananwala RSP ndu ceremonially switched on the Poson Zone on 09 Jun (2nd day) representing the Comd SF (E). Mr Ranjith Ariyarathne District Secretary – Polonnaruwa too attended the event as a Guest of Honour.\r\n
