SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (EAST) CELEBRATES VESAK FESTIVAL

To mark the Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, Security Force Headquarters (East) conducted several activities at the Headquarters premises in Welikanda on account of commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment and Passing away of the Lord Buddha on this significant Day, 18 May.

The Incumbent Thero of Buddhist Centre Welikanda, Ven Delwita Meththalankara Thero conducted a Bodhi Pooja Programme where Maj Gen K P A Jayasekera WWV RSP USP psc, the Comd SF (E), Officers and Other Ranks serving at the Headquarters were in attendance. A colourful Vesak lantern that has been design by the troops of the Headquarters SF (E) was opened by the Comd SF (E) at the Buddhist Centre Welikanda. Despite being a follower of the Islamic faith, Captain J Nafeer SLNG, Officer Commanding of the Admin Coy committed himself day and night in guiding and supervising troops to design this colourful lantern, providing a good example of unity and understanding among different religious groups.

Meanwhile, on 17 May 19, on the invitation of Ven. Kanthale Rahula Thero – the Chief Incumbent of Galtambarawa temple, Polonnaruwa, the Comd SF (E) attended the auspicious occasion to lay bricks of the new Stupa which is under construction at the premises. Thereafter, he laid the foundation stone for a new Shrining Room at Ruwanpitiya temple, Aselapura.
