Security Force Headquarters - East Welikanda and other formations in the East separately celebrated the Independence Day at respective places on Tuesday (4).
On the instructions of the Commander Security Forces (East), Major General Rasika Fernando, the programme to mark the National Day was held at the premises. Brigadier Samantha Silva Brigadier General Staff, Security Force Headquarters (East) together with all troops serving the SFHQ-E started the National Day celebrations at the Headquarters premises with a massive tree planting campaign where nearly 500 saplings were planted. Concurrently, similar tree planting campaigns were conducted in 22, 23, 24 Divisions and FMA(East) that are under command to Security Force Headquarters (East) where 15000 saplings were planted as an investment for the future generation and the mother nature.
Thereafter, troops attended together to pay their tribute to the Nation by hoisting the National Flag and recital of the National Anthem. Fallen War Heroes were then honoured observing a two-minute silence, followed by the message of the Commander of the Army being readout and the live telecast of the National Independence Day celebrations at the Independence Square in Colombo occurred during the day.
