A programme to distribute school books and school supplies to students studying at Am/Maha Unuwathura Bubula Vidyalaya, which comes under the MahaOya Education Zone, was conducted at the school premises on 17 January 2026. The programme benefited students from the Primary up to the GCE O/ L.
The school book and school supplies distribution ceremony was organised jointly by the 243 Infantry Battalion and the 16 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion, under the overall supervision of the 24 Infantry Division. The event was graced by the presence of the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, Major General K.V.N.P. Premaratne RSP USP nps psc, Senior Officer, along with the Commander, Security Force Headquarters (East), Major General J.S.B.W. Pallekumbura RWP RSP ndu psc, Senior Officer. The General Officer Commanding of the 24 Infantry Division, The Commander of the 243 Infantry Brigade, senior officers, officers, and troops of the 16 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion were also present.
The financial sponsorship for this school book and school supplies distribution programme was generously provided by the Tarana Foundation. The Honourable Chairman of the Tarana Foundation, together with a group of officials, participated in this event. All students of Unuwathura Bubula Vidyalaya, who come from low-income families and face various hardships in the area, were provided with essential school books and school supplies.
Teachers of Unuwathura Bubula Vidyalaya, parents of the students, and residents of the surrounding area also participated in this programme.
